Two symmetric pillars with horizontal planks — a grand entrance you pass through.
Picture a traditional Japanese torii gate or castle gate: two tall pillars on either side, connected by horizontal bars, perfectly symmetrical. That imposing, balanced shape is 門. In kanji, when something happens inside or because of a gate — entering, asking at the door, opening — 門 is there.
